Hey Bootclub team!

It's now a few weeks since my participation and it allowed me to reflect the time in the camp. It was definitely the right choice for me and gave me the first boost for building the condition, muscles and losing the extra kilos.

There were a few aspects that are putting me off from recommending the Bootclub camp for all those who have been asking me to give feedback, and I would like to share a few points with you:

1) Life-long change / psychological change support was missing from the camp. I think the workshops should be integral part of the camp. I hear already from our camp people that immediately afterwards some have gained their weight back and have not got into sport (some even not once). I was worried this to happen. So, I do recommend the course for people who are already in the stage that they are admitting their problems and have taken the first steps to fix those, know the tricks to keep pushing it well after the camp. I do not recommend the camp for people who are in the earliest stage in their transformation journey as during the camp they see fast results and it jojos even worse back after the camp due to the lack of guidance and behavioral change training. If you have people returning to the camp later with the same or higher weight than was when they left from the previous, I would not consider you being successful. I know this sounds hard, but I hope you understand what I mean. I would like to hear stories when people are returning to the camp after losing another x kilos, just to make another boost for their weight loss goals. This would definitely be the case in my case. I have been losing weight constantly after the camp, built a better condition, and do definitely consider joining again. But again, only because I was already in the stage of my change when I had got rid of the most obstacles of change before I joined the camp and have made the changes to secure a permanent change regarding my lifestyle. Unfortunately, I do not see the same success among all my co-fellows from the camps I joined.

2) Personalization level of sport & meals. I know this is a hard task due to the large variation of people's conditions and sizes. There were good attempts to split the groups based on condition; however, I don't think that was carried out enough. It was rather unclear how tired one should feel after each day in order to decide if one should have an extra round of running or doing some other exercises; or to avoid doing too much. Everyone at the camp want to dedicate the time to gain the maximal effects and I felt a bit like it was left for oneself to make sure you did enough / did not do too much. The same was during the exercises for people at the lower level of condition. They were told to rest if it felt like so. However, if one has not done sport for a long time - or some people never - how they should know what is too much? It was not taught for us what kinds of signs the body shows when it is too much. Everyone understands what pain means, but there are other signs to listen; many are just not aware of those. So, I would put extra effort on guiding people on how to listen their body and how to make sure they are maximising the effort at the camp. Similarly, the meal sizes were divided between men and women - however, there were huge size differences within both groups, so the basic needs were very different within those who are the same size meals. After studying this topic afterwards, this should also be more personalized in order to maximise the gain of the camp (also incl. losing/building muscles vs. fat).

3) Team professionalism. The people who work for Bootclub were very nice and I know they did their best. However, I am not sure how much guidance of professionalism the youngest members/trainers are provided. There is a fine line of being nice and like-a-friend and being professional. I think in some cases, the employees did not recognise those limits. One example was that the information that was delivered for questions was very often based on personal experiences instead of science and proven evidence. This does not convince enough as a guidance. I would put more effort on training the employees on those limits as well as professional communication styles.

This turned out to be a lot of text. However, I still want to make it explicit that in my case the camp really worked well for the purpose I set for myself = starting boost of getting the sport and nutrition back in shape. I do not think it would have worked for a larger healthier life changing goals in general. It could do that, though. And this is the reason why I wanted to outline the feedback. I hope you take it constructive to offer even better services for the target groups the camps are advertised for. I hope to see you soon again in the form of another camp.

Wish you all the best!
